We are off to a remarkable date – the anniversary of the first shutdown throughout our industry. Given this special date, it’s great to see our industry recovering faster than expected. The past 12 months delivered a wave of innovation across the automotive industry, as highlighted in Judson Althoff’s recent blog, referencing customers such as Faurecia, ZF, Bosch, Volkswagen, CNHi, Wayve, and Cox Automotive. It’s great to see our industry recovering faster than expected. I want to thank everyone for coming together and showing incredible resiliency despite the challenges of the pandemic.

This month,
Bosch announced its efforts with Microsoft to develop a software-defines vehicle platform on Azure to connect vehicles to the cloud seamlessly. The new platform will incorporate existing software modules from Bosch and enable the software to be developed and downloaded to the control units and vehicle computers.

Also this month, we announced the extension of Microsoft’s partnership with
Volkswagen AG to build a cloud-based Automated Driving Platform (ADP) on Azure and leverage its compute and data capabilities to deliver automated driving experiences even faster at global scale.

We’ve seen other exciting customer momentum too.
ZF announced that it selected Microsoft and PwC Germany as its strategic partners to build ZF’s digital manufacturing platform. The project enables ZF to reduce conversion costs, improve inventory, performance, and quality, and make their workforce more efficient.

I would encourage you to read our
blog for more details about these stories and much more.

The start of the year was also filled with multiple industry events. At
Automotive World Japan, we presented a keynote with Volkswagen AG’s Automotive Cloud CTO, Zoran Lazovski, on how Microsoft is partnering with the Automotive industry to accelerate digital transformation in a world increasingly enabled by software. At CES, Heiko Huettel, Microsoft’s head of automotive for EMEA, joined a virtual media panel “Digital Difference in Urban Mobility.” Together with UMI, Volkswagen’s car-sharing division, Municipality of Milan, the software subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH and Transport for London, Microsoft discussed how data is moving us in new ways and how digitization is transforming city mobility, impacting livelihoods, and more.

Looking ahead, we are more optimistic than ever about the industry’s future. Our team at Microsoft is eager to continue our journey to support our customers and partners with their digital transformations, and continue to be a partner to our industry.
