This summer, we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/microsoft-365\/blog\/2019\/06\/25\/onedrive-personal-vault-added-security-onedrive-additional-storage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> OneDrive Personal Vault, which uses identity verification to protect your most important files. Now we\u2019re happy to share that Personal Vault is available worldwide on all OneDrive consumer accounts. Additionally, we have more OneDrive news to share on expandable storage options, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-au\/microsoft-365\/onedrive\/pc-cloud-backup?ocid=oo_support_mix_marvel_ups_support_smconedrive_inline_cloudbackup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cloud backup<\/a> with automatic folder backup, and dark mode\u2014read on to learn more.<\/p>\n<h3>Meet Personal Vault<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onedrive.live.com\/about\/personal-vault\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Personal Vault<\/a> is a protected area in OneDrive that can only be accessed with a strong authentication method or a second step of identity verification, such as your fingerprint, face, PIN, or a code sent to you via email or SMS.<sup>1<\/sup> Personal Vault gives you an added layer of protection for your most important files, photos, and videos\u2014for example, copies of documents such as your passport, driver\u2019s license, or insurance information\u2014should someone gain access to your account or device.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, this added security won\u2019t slow you down. You can quickly access your important documents, photos, and files with confidence wherever you are, on your PC, OneDrive.com, or your mobile device.<sup>2<\/sup><\/p>\n<div class=\"fluid-iframe\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Video Player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/videoplayer\/embed\/RE3QN0O\" class=\"c-video\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Beyond a second layer of identity verification, Personal Vault also includes the following security measures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Scan and shoot<\/strong>\u2014Using the OneDrive app, you can scan documents or shoot photos directly into your Personal Vault, keeping them off less secure areas of your device, like your camera roll.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Automatic locking<\/strong><em>\u2014<\/em>No need to worry about whether you left your Personal Vault or your files open\u2014both will close and lock automatically after a period of inactivity.<sup>3<\/sup><\/li>\n<li><strong>BitLocker encryption<\/strong><em>\u2014<\/em>On Windows 10 PCs, OneDrive automatically syncs your Personal Vault files to a BitLocker-encrypted area of your local hard drive.<sup>4<\/sup><\/li>\n<li><strong>Restricted sharing<\/strong>\u2014To prevent accidental sharing, files in Personal Vault and shared items moved into Personal Vault cannot be shared.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Taken together, these security measures help ensure that Personal Vault files are not stored unprotected on your PC, and your files have additional protection, even if your Windows 10 PC or mobile device is lost, stolen, or someone gains access to it or to your account.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-229393\" src=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-au\/microsoft-365\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/09\/OneDrive-personal-vault-1.gif\" alt=\"Animated image of a user verifying her identity in OneDrive Personal Vault.\" width=\"360\" height=\"666\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Personal Vault is the latest advancement in OneDrive\u2019s suite of security features, which also includes file encryption at rest and in transit, suspicious sign-in monitoring, ransomware detection and recovery, mass file deletion notification and recovery, virus scanning on downloads for known threats, password protected sharing links, and version history for all file types.<\/p>\n<h3>Personal Vault is now available worldwide<\/h3>\n<p>To start using Personal Vault, look for the Personal Vault icon <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-229394\" src=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-au\/microsoft-365\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/09\/OneDrive-Personal-Vault-icon-option-1.png\" alt=\"Personal Vault icon.\" width=\"25\" height=\"17\" \/> in your OneDrive and simply click or tap it. If you\u2019re using OneDrive\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-au\/microsoft-365\/onedrive\/compare-onedrive-plans?ocid=oo_support_mix_marvel_ups_support_smconedrive_inline_freecloudstorage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">free cloud storage<\/a> or standalone 100 GB plan, you can store up to three files in Personal Vault. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/p\/office-365-personal\/cfq7ttc0k5bf?activetab=pivot%3aoverviewtab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office 365 Personal<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/p\/office-365-home\/cfq7ttc0k5dm?activetab=pivot%3aoverviewtab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office 365 Home<\/a> subscribers can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-au\/microsoft-365\/onedrive\/personal-vault?ocid=oo_support_mix_marvel_ups_support_smconedrive_inline_filestorage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">store files<\/a> as they want in Personal Vault, up to their storage limit.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more in this <a href=\"http:\/\/intrazone.mpsn.libsynpro.com\/onedrive-personal-vault\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Personal Vault podcast<\/a> on Intrazone.<\/p>\n<h3>Backing up your folders just got easier<\/h3>\n<p>We made it easy to back up your important folders to OneDrive\u2014so your files are protected and available even if something happens to your PC. With <a href=\"https:\/\/onedrive.live.com\/about\/pc-folder-backup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PC folder backup<\/a> you can choose to automatically back up files in your Desktop, Documents, or Pictures folders to OneDrive. Now you don\u2019t have to worry about protecting your work\u2014with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-au\/microsoft-365\/onedrive\/onedrive-for-business?ocid=oo_support_mix_marvel_ups_support_smconedrive_inline_cloudstorageforbusiness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cloud storage for business<\/a>, OneDrive will do it for you.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fluid-iframe\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Video Player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/videoplayer\/embed\/RE3S8h1\" class=\"c-video\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>You can also access your backed-up files even when you\u2019re away from your PC\u2014just use the OneDrive mobile app or go to OneDrive.com. Plus, saving your files to OneDrive allows you to view and restore previous versions of your files up to 30 days in the past.<\/p>\n<p>PC folder backup is now more deeply integrated with the newest version of Windows 10, so you can easily enable it during Windows setup or updates. This dramatic new look is both easy on the eyes and lets you take full advantage of an OLED screen to save battery life.
