John Moore, recently losing his wife, discovers a secret about his past from a letter she had kept from him their entire marriage. After a bout with the bottle, and his strained family, John decides to fix up and ride his “American Dresser” motorcycle from Long Island New York to Washington State by himself. However his best friend, Charlie, lays a guilt trip on him and explains that his leg will be getting amputated shortly and this would be his only chance to ride again. The unfortunate circumstances turn into an opportunity for both to finally fulfill a life long dream of riding their motorcycles cross country for the first and last time. Once on the open road and through many states, the ride takes an unexpected turn when they meet Willie a young caviler guy that loves having a good time but comes with a checkered past. Adventure and adventure ensues on the open road. Taking a grand journey across the United States where John, Charlie and Willie encounter everything from bar room brawls, to romance, to beach parties; even a dangerous run in with the law. The beautiful journey brings the new friends close together. All leads to John's confrontation with his past and one magical Sturgis motorcycle rally.
