Summary of Changes to the Microsoft Services Agreement – September 30, 2024
We are updating the Microsoft Services Agreement, which applies to your use of Microsoft consumer online products and services. This page provides a summary of the most notable changes to the Microsoft Services Agreement.

- In the header, we updated the publication date to July 30, 2024, and the effective date to September 30, 2024.
- In the Using the Services & Support section, within the Moderation and Enforcement section we added a link to our external policy page for clarity and ease of users.
- In the Service-Specific Terms section, we made the following additions and changes:
- In the Xbox section, we clarified that non-Xbox third-party platforms may require users to share their content and data in order to play Xbox Game Studio titles and these third-party platforms may track and share your data, subject to their terms. We explained in the Kids on Xbox subsection that family settings features may not be available when Xbox Game Studio titles are accessed on third-party platforms. We clarified that some Xbox Services may have their own usage terms and codes of conduct.
- In the Microsoft Family Features section, we clarified that these features are exclusive to Microsoft Services and may not be available on other platforms.
- Microsoft Cashback: We added a section on the Microsoft Cashback program to describe the program and to confirm that acceptance of the Cashback Terms and Conditions is required to participate in the program.
- In the Microsoft Rewards section, we added verbiage to clarify how to claim Points on the Rewards Dashboard and that Points will be awarded for only those searches used for genuine good-faith personal research purposes.
- We added a section to confirm the terms and conditions that govern the use of Copilot AI Experiences services.
- We updated the section on AI Services to add clarity around assistive AI, ownership of content, content credentials, and third-party claims.
- Throughout the Terms, we made changes to improve clarity and to address grammar, typos, and other similar issues. We also updated naming and hyperlinks.
