Death of the Deskjob: Half the UK workforce to work remotely by 2020
By 2020, half of our workforce will be working remotely, revealing the real impact of flexible working on British businesses.
Currently, 58 percent of employees are offered flexible working hours, according to the PowWowNow Flexible Working Survey.
Flexible working is now necessary to attract and keep the best staff, with a 70 percent of employees believing it makes a job more attractive. 40 percent will even take it over a pay rise! As a result of this, employers have been able to hold on to staff with childcare responsibilities, valuable employees with health issues, and those needing to care for a relative.
As technology continues to evolve it’s becoming easier for bosses to equip their staff with everything they need to work on their own terms without being tied to their desks. This, in turn, helps staff fulfil their duties in a way that works for them whilst benefiting both productivity and well-being.
The role of technology is a key factor in enabling teams to work flexibly with computers and devices becoming smaller and more portable, combined with the rollout of 4G and increased Wi-Fi hotspots, as well as video conferencing services such as Skype and easy collaborating tools found in Office 365 such as Teams or OneNote.
