How the cloud is helping the UK healthcare industry
The latest annual report from the National Information Board has been published and it makes for interesting reading for the UK healthcare industry. The report states that “by harnessing the digital opportunity for health and care, the NHS can not only reaffirm its world class status but has the potential to go beyond what has been achieved elsewhere and in other sectors in the UK”.
In today’s modern digital world, NHS Trusts have the potential to achieve more in the cloud. However, when it comes to entrusting a cloud provider with your most valuable and irreplaceable asset – your data – you need to be sure it’s secure. Trust is essential before you move clinical applications and datasets containing patient identifiable data (PID), including patient demographics and treatment information, to the public cloud.
At Microsoft, we are working directly with the NHS to support its digital aspirations of using data and technology to deliver against sustainability and transformation plans. We have aligned with the NHS at local, regional and national level to support efforts to transform patient experience and advance health outcomes. But we wanted to discover more about the experiences of digital transformation in the UK healthcare industry and offer additional support, so we asked some of our customers about their journey to the cloud.
We found these NHS Trusts, Ambulance Services, Commissioning Groups and Private Healthcare organisations are all on their own individual journey. Some wanted more efficient access to patient care, others hoped to improve care team productivity and collaboration, whilst others planned to boost clinical and operational performance with trusted cloud solutions to ensure data is protected, private and compliant. They all had one thing in common – they all wanted to achieve more.
