It’s official: we Brits are a dog loving nation. No offense to cat cuddlers or bunny buddies, we just like dogs more[1]. It’s not hard to see why either: dogs are great for helping detect and protect against bad guys; they help us stay active; and regardless of the mood we’re in, they always light up when they see our face. In short, dogs just get us. In a lot of ways Windows 10 is like our favourite family pet. Don’t believe me? Read on. (I promise to keep the dog puns to a minimum.)

Whereas humans generally can’t hear sounds above a frequency of 23,000 Hertz, dogs can hear sounds up to 45,000 Hertz. Dogs’ sense of smell is 10,000-100,000 times better than humans. Their reaction times are faster. Essentially, dogs have far better at detecting and responding to external stimuli than humans alone. In the same way, Windows 10 has been built from the ground up to detect and respond to modern security threats.

In addition to previous security features such as bit-locker and biometric log-in capability, Windows 10 includes new features such as Credential Guard and advanced two-factor authentication. It also includes Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protector, which helps businesses detect, investigate, and respond to advanced and targeted attacks on their networks. Windows 10 also helps to keep your devices safe from malware and untrusted apps with the rigorous access controls of Device Guard.

Most dogs are active. Like, really really active. In the mornings, they’re up and ready to go even before you’ve had your first cup of tea. This is to be expected given that their metabolism is faster than humans and they perceive time as moving faster than we do. In many ways, the same can be said for Windows 10. Gone are the days of booting-up your computer, then having enough time to a cuppa before the system is ready to have you log in. Windows 10 starts up to 28% faster than Windows 7. Our next generation browser, Microsoft Edge, is built to give a better – and faster – web experience; one that’s made for easy sharing, reading, discovery and getting things done online. Web pages load 44% faster than other browsers, and is up to 26% faster with common work tasks.

One of the best parts of a being a dog owner is the greeting. It doesn’t matter if they haven’t seen you all day, or if you just nipped around the corner to the fridge for a few minutes: when you come back, they’re always happy to see you. And interacting with them just feels so easy and natural. They’ve learned and adapted to your daily rhythms and routines, and are always eager to be a part of them. Likewise for Windows 10. It feels natural and intuitive, and fits seamlessly into the lives of your employees whether they’re on mobile devices, tablets or PCs. Windows Hello can log you in just by “looking” at you. With Windows Ink employees can write on their devices as they do on paper, creating sticky notes, drawing on a whiteboard, and easily sharing thoughts and plans in the digital world.

With Cortana, the world’s first personal digital assistant, users can get things done more easily just by talking to her. Whether it’s helping to schedule a meeting, find a file from years ago, or get you an important fact from the web, built-in machine learning capabilities allow Cortana to interpret natural language to help you find it faster. What’s more, Cortana learns employees’ rhythms and routines over time, and is happy to help make them more productive.

So, not everyone’s a dog person, and if you’ve ever had to make a case in your own home for why dogs are awesome, it can take a bit of convincing. The same could be said for Windows 10. If you’ve had a chance to use it, you probably have a good sense of why it’s our best version of Windows yet. If there are others in your organisation who might not have a clear understanding of what makes Windows 10 a modern workplace necessity, I suggest sharing our new guide Ready for the modern enterprise below.

Download Ready for the modern enterprisenow

[1] Percentage of UK Households with Pets

In a lot of ways Windows 10 is like our favourite family pet.
