Frequently asked questions
- Power Platform is designed for a broad range of users, including professional developers, IT professionals, and business users and makers. Teams can begin with low‑code tools to address their immediate needs, while IT defines environments, enforces security, maintains visibility, and upholds governance standards. This approach enables innovation while allowing solutions to scale across departments—without sacrificing compliance, reliability, or operational control.
- Power Platform offers flexible licensing based on users, apps, and usage scenarios. For enterprise adoption, advanced scenarios—such as premium connectors, Dataverse access, or enterprise scale apps and automation—require standalone licenses, so premium licensing is recommended.
- Microsoft 365 is not required to get started with Power Platform, but the platform integrates deeply with it. Organizations can use Power Platform on its own or alongside Microsoft 365 to build apps, automate workflows, and deploy AI-powered agents. When used together, teams can take advantage of the combined solution’s existing identity, data, and collaboration services while maintaining centralized security and governance.
- Power Platform includes enterprise-grade security, compliance, and governance controls designed for IT-led deployments. Teams can centrally manage environments, data access, data loss prevention (DLP) policies, identity, monitoring, and auditability across apps, automation, and agents. This enables innovation safely, within approved guardrails, while helping organizations meet their security, regulatory, and operational requirements at scale.
- Many teams build and deploy their initial Power Platform solutions in days or weeks, rather than in months. Prebuilt connectors, templates, and AI assistance accelerate development efforts. Enterprise application lifecycle management (ALM) practices deliver support versioning, testing, and controlled releases for production-grade deployments. This allows IT teams to move quickly from pilot to production and scale solutions confidently across environments and business units.
- Yes. Power Platform is used by large, complex organizations to run mission‑critical workloads at enterprise scale. The solution supports standardized architectures, offers performance and reliability guidance, and provides deep integration with Azure services. IT teams can design for security, compliance, availability, and growth while maintaining centralized governance and operational control—even as solutions expand across departments and production environments.
- Power Platform lets teams build apps and agents together using shared data, workflows, and governance controls. Apps handle structured tasks, workflows, and business processes, while agents assist with reasoning, automation, and user interactions. Together, they operate as a unified solution within a single platform, allowing organizations to deliver intelligent experiences while maintaining security, compliance, and operational consistency.
- IT teams typically start working with Power Platform by defining and establishing their environments, governance policies, and adoption guidance aligned to their organization’s standards. Microsoft provides proven best practices, reference architectures, and implementation resources to help organizations roll out Power Platform with confidence. We work with our customers to help them enable innovation while maintaining control as their solutions move from pilot to production.
