That\u2019s why I\u2019m excited that Microsoft is the premier sponsor of a first-of-its-kind event focused on the intersection of technology and urban life: <a href=\"http:\/\/smartcitiesnyc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smart Cities NYC &#8217;17<\/a>, May 3-6. Here are a few examples of innovation using our <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/?b=17.05\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft Azure<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/click\/services\/Redirect2.ashx?CR_CC=200768619\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azure Government<\/a> cloud platforms:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Urban mobility and transportation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cubic.com\/Transportation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cubic Transportation Systems<\/a> is supporting Miami-Dade County in modernizing its Cubic-supplied, Azure-based EASY Card revenue management system to book, route and pay for transit across bus, train, bike-share and ride-share options.<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft is working through a new <a href=\"http:\/\/cityinnovate.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">City Innovate Foundation<\/a> public-private partnership to help advance transportation solutions for all cities, starting with Chattanooga, Tenn., Los Angeles, Miami-Dade, Oakland and Victoria, B.C. <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.microsoft.com\/en-us\/industries\/citynext\/microsoft-helping-miami-dade-county-achieve-mobility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Please learn more here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Azure-based <a href=\"http:\/\/transitscreen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TransitScreen<\/a> empowers commuters with a convenient, real-time picture of all their nearest transportation options\u2014and <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.microsoft.com\/en-us\/articles\/industries\/citynext\/transitscreen-knowledge-powers-mobility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">helps cities become more sustainable and healthier places to live, work and play<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Through a partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.datakind.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DataKind<\/a>, Microsoft is analyzing traffic collision data in New York, Seattle and other Vision Zero Cities, which aim to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.datakind.org\/blog\/using-data-science-to-increase-traffic-safety-for-all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reduce traffic-related deaths and serious injuries to zero<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/fathym.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fathym\u2019s<\/a> Internet of Things-enabled <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.microsoft.com\/iot\/2016\/12\/09\/fathyms-iot-enabled-weathercloud-enhances-driver-safety-during-inclement-weather\/#hkYHobe2QlrlKE8M.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WeatherCloud<\/a> enhances driver safety during inclement weather.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.microsoft.com\/blog\/2017\/01\/05\/microsoft-connected-vehicle-platform-helps-automakers-transform-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft Connected Vehicle Platform<\/a> provides a set of services built on the Azure cloud to empower auto manufacturers to create custom connected driving experiences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Health and human services:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.diona.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Diona<\/a> is working to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.microsoft.com\/en-us\/industries\/government\/engaging-citizens-through-azure-based-mobile-solutions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">engage citizens with health and human services agencies<\/a> through Azure-based mobile solutions.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/fostercaretech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foster Care Technologies<\/a> has a leading edge <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.microsoft.com\/en-us\/industries\/government\/empowering-agencies-with-every-child-a-priority\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">foster-care placement solution called ECAP<\/a>, which runs on Azure Government.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tetruscorp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tetrus<\/a> is enabling HHS agencies <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.microsoft.com\/en-us\/articles\/industries\/government\/helping-children-find-loving-adoptive-homes-in-a-fraction-of-the-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">find loving, adoptive homes for children in a fraction of the time<\/a> through an Azure Government-based information exchange.<\/li>\n<li>The California Department of Social Services, Microsoft and <a href=\"http:\/\/go-planet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Planet Technologies<\/a> partnered to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.microsoft.com\/en-us\/customer-story\/industries\/insurance\/california-department-of-social-services-goes-digital-to-deliver-faster-more-efficient-services-to-citizens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">redefine the entire citizen experience by empowering employees, engaging with citizens and optimizing operations<\/a> through Surface, Azure and Office 365.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Public safety:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Microsoft Patrol Car is a great example of our work with partners to integrate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dLthZEMtFN8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cloud based, connected technology solutions into patrol vehicles<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.genetec.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Genetec<\/a> launched a Microsoft Azure-based <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.microsoft.com\/en-us\/articles\/industries\/government\/team-approach-crisis-response\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">security solution that police, fire and other departments can use to manage images<\/a> from video security, access control and license plate recognition cameras to help cut crime. Microsoft and Genetec also are providing 10 U.S. cities with Community Connect starter kits to enable local businesses to connect surveillance cameras to police through the cloud, providing <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.microsoft.com\/en-us\/industries\/citynext\/citynext-empowering-smarter-cities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a vital tool that&#8217;s already reduced violent crime by 50 percent at participating Detroit businesses<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The Miami-Dade Police Department <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.microsoft.com\/transform\/2016\/09\/13\/miami-dade-county-embraces-technology-build-community-make-policing-transparent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is transforming its operations through two solutions powered by Microsoft cloud technology: VIEVU<\/a> body-worn cameras for officers and the Community on Patrol (COP) mobile app that connects citizens to each other and to police.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sustainability:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/spatialwave.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spatial Wave<\/a> worked with Los Angeles to implement an Azure-based mobility component that provides <a href=\"https:\/\/customers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/story\/la-improves-sanitation-services-with-a-cloud-based-spatially-enabled-mobile-solution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more effective sanitation services while reducing costs<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>To improve building management and energy efficiency, Pittsburgh\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/customers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/story\/university-improves-operational-efficiency-cuts-energy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carnegie Mellon University implemented the PI System<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.osisoft.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OSIsoft<\/a>, based on Power BI for Office 365 and Windows Azure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Microsoft also is proud to be the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.microsoft.com\/green\/2016\/11\/28\/microsofts-redmond-campus-500-acres-and-zero-waste\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first technology company in the country to achieve Gold Level of Zero Waste Certification for our Redmond, Wash., campus<\/a>, recognizing our work to divert at least 90 percent of food, office and construction waste away from landfills.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll look forward to discussing more cloud-based solutions at <a href=\"http:\/\/smartcitiesnyc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smart Cities NYC &#8217;17<\/a> and demonstrating our Azure and Azure Government platforms, which support nearly 6 million government users across 7,000-plus federal, state and local organizations, and fulfill stringent security and compliance requirements.
