The winners of the 2015 Microsoft Health Innovation Awards were announced at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Annual Conference & Exhibition (HIMSS15). Each year, Microsoft acknowledges forward-thinking health organizations and their technology solution partners that are using Microsoft technology to innovate and improve healthcare. It’s a great opportunity to showcase how industry leaders are taking advantage of modern devices and services to advance patient care, reduce costs, and streamline clinical and business processes.

Demonstrating how today’s technologies are promoting transformation in healthcare, here are the winners in each of the submission categories:

Innovation in Analytics: STE Consultants, LLC and ABPathfinder, Inc.

ABPathfinder developed ABPathfinder, a cloud-based software tool that provides therapists and educators the ability to collect, graph, and analyze data in real time. It increases skill acquisition progress by 20 percent, while cutting administrative and planning time in half. STE, for example, is one of many organizations that leverage ABPathfinder’s software in their therapy practice to help individuals with autism reduce problem behaviors and gain critical communication and social skills.

Innovation in Patient Engagement (two winners): Children’s Specialized Hospital and BluePrint Healthcare IT

Created by Blue Print Healthcare IT, Care Navigator™ empowers real-time, team-based care coordination and communication. The mobile-enabled healthcare technology platform is based on Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Children’s Specialized Hospital is using the solution in its largest primary care practice as part of its medical home model.

Community Healthcare System and Hitachi Consulting

Community Healthcare Foundation engaged Hitachi Consulting to design New Healthy Me, a wellness program that uses gamification software and real-time data to educate and motivate employees to adopt healthier behaviors. Since its launch in 2010, program metrics have shown a consistent decrease in healthcare costs for New Healthy Me participants.

Innovation in Operations and Workflow: Intermountain Healthcare

To achieve its telehealth goals, Intermountain Healthcare has invested in technology and infrastructure that will support system wide scalability. It’s using a media-rich, audio-video solution built on Microsoft Lync to communicate with patients and enable care teams to collaborate as if they were in the same room.

Innovation in Productivity and Mobility: Cardiovascular Center of Marin and Allscripts

The Cardiovascular Center of Marin is using Allscripts Wand™ for Windows-a full-featured, touch-enabled mobile EHR application that supports natural interactions-to improve physician productivity and mobility. The solution enables a re-envisioned work surface for healthcare providers using Allscripts TouchWorks® EHR.

Open Innovation: Hospital La Pedrera and NeuroAtHome

NeuroAtHome is a software-based platform that uses Kinect sensors, touchscreen interfaces, gamification techniques, and Azure cloud technology to create fully configurable exercises for physical and cognitive rehabilitation. It enables health organizations like Hospital La Pedrera to deliver therapy services regardless of patient location.
