A showcase of Copilot‘s AI-powered art and creative features is really a showcase of ways your imagination can be unleashed. Learn about the image and text-generating prowess of Copilot as we show a quick glimpse of what you can use it to create.

What can you create with Copilot?

We’d say that all you need to explore Copilot’s creative AI tools is an idea, but you don’t even need that. Copilot’s conversational search can even help you generate an idea from scratch. Once you have a creative idea, ask Copilot to bring it to life for you. Here are examples of the kinds of art and creative writing Copilot can generate along with prompts for you to try.

AI art

Designer, built right into Copilot, is an AI image generator powered by DALL-E 3. It’s capable of generating images of just about anything, in just about any style you can imagine. When you ask Copilot to create an image, it gets to work turning your text prompt into a visual output, usually with three or more options to choose from. You can then ask it to regenerate the image with specific changes or edits, in a different artistic style, or in any new way you’d like. Keep the conversation going until you get the image you want.

To show you what Designer can do, we tried a few prompts. Here are the results:

Prompt 1: Create an image of a wolf howling at a full moon at night.

Prompt 2: I like the top-right image best. Regenerate that image but make it a woman dancing in front of the moon in a photo-realistic style.

Prompt 3: Take the lower-right image and make it in the style of batik. Remove the moon and put a vibrant sunrise in the background.

AI art prompts

Are you ready to try creating AI art in Copilot for yourself? Since you’re in conversation with Copilot, keep in mind that you can hone the results until the image is just right. Here are a few prompt types to get you started and keep the generative conversation going:

  • Create a simple image. Make an image of [subject].
  • Get more specific. Make an image of [subject] in [setting] at [time of day] in the style of [artistic style].
  • Edit your AI image. Add [change] and remove [change].
  • Adjust styles. Generate the same image as [new style].
  • Tell a story one image at a time. Make an image of the same subject in the same style, but change it to [next scene, action, place, or event].

AI creative writing

Compose is an AI text generator built into Copilot. Not only can it generate human speech, but it can do so with creative flair and inventiveness. While it can create anything from an email suggesting a location for a fun family gathering to a scene in a movie script, when you give it a prompt for a literary form or style, its creative abilities can shine.

AI creative writing showcase

Short or long, casual or sarcastic, Copilot can write up just about anything you can request and will revise it as much as you like. Here’s a quick demonstration of what it can do:

Prompt 1: Write me a short poem about starting the day off right.

Wake up early and greet the dawn
A new day is here for you to take on
Fill your mind with positive thoughts
And let go of the ones that make you distraught

Prompt 2: Add mention of these three things: my dog, Buster; waffles; and yoga.

Wake up early and greet the dawn
With Buster by your side, you can’t go wrong
Fill your mind with positive thoughts
And enjoy some waffles with syrup and nuts

Do some yoga and feel the energy
Stretch your muscles and breathe deeply
Have a nutritious breakfast and hydrate
Prepare yourself for whatever awaits

Prompt 3: Make this poem more free form.

As the sun rises, you and Buster wake. You always have fun, no matter what’s at stake. You fill your mind with things that bring you joy. You treat yourself to waffles with toppings you enjoy.

You practice yoga and feel the flow. You bend your body and touch your toe. You have a balanced meal and quench your thirst. You face the day and whatever comes first.

AI creative writing prompts

Whether silly or serious, Copilot can help you write what you need. Here are a few prompts to generate the creative writing you imagine:

  • General. Create a [literary form] about [topic].
  • Get more specific. Create a [literary form] about [topic] in the style of [literary style] in [tone]. It should be about [character names and descriptions] overcoming [obstacle].
  • Ask for revisions. Regenerate that but make these changes: [changes].
  • Adjust voice, genre, or style. Generate the same text as [new voice, genre, or style].
  • Get a wider view. Write an outline for this piece that shows key events and helps me see how these characters can overcome this challenge one step at a time.
  • Develop characters. Write up character descriptions for the following characters: [names and details]. Generate choices of additional character traits and nuances for each character, what motivates them, and how they might talk.
  • Prompt rewording. Add more context to prompts to get better results. Example: original prompt: “Create a poem about a serene beach at sunset.” A rephrased prompt example: “Write a poem describing two lovers walking on a tranquil shoreline during the evening’s twilight.”

Conclusion

Copilot offers creative AI tools that can help you generate ideas from scratch and bring them to life. It includes Designer, which can generate images in various styles based on text prompts, and Compose, an AI text generator that can create a wide range of content, from poems to movie scripts. Users can interact with these tools to fine-tune their creations, making it easy to produce AI art and creative writing with ease.

With all this creative AI functionality, just think of what Copilot can help you create! Try these prompts for yourself or create your own to see how your imagination can be unleashed with the help of AI.

Writing good prompts is key to getting better outcomes with Copilot. Just like there are techniques to help you communicate effectively with a human, there are tips to help you get better results with Copilot when writing prompts.

Here are some tips to consider:

    • Include details: In addition to your goal (what you want Copilot to do), consider including some context, explain how Copilot should respond to fulfill your request, and any specific information source Copilot should use (such as a file or email messages). Try the following two prompts using Copilot in Word, and compare the responses you get. Which prompt gave you a richer and more concise blog post draft?
      • Prompt 1: Write a blog post about sustainable practices in agriculture.
      • Prompt 2: Craft a 1500-word blog post for a general audience interested in sustainability, focusing on the significance and benefits of sustainable agricultural practices like organic farming and agroforestry. Include real-world examples, innovative technologies, and insights from reputable sources. Conclude with a reflection on the importance of these practices and a call for collective efforts to embrace them
    • Structure your prompts for better results. When it comes to prompts, order matters. The order of your instructions can impact the response you get. Later parts of a prompt are likely to be emphasized more than earlier parts. Experiment with different orders to understand the impact. If you want Copilot to use specific files or sources, put that information last. Try the following two prompts using Copilot in Word, and compare the responses you get. What differences do you see here?
      • Prompt 1 (instruction-context-example):  Craft a blog post outlining the benefits of meditation. Meditation has been a practice for centuries and is known for reducing stress. For instance, mindfulness meditation has shown positive effects on mental health.
      • Prompt 2 (context-example-instruction): Meditation has been a practice for centuries and is known for reducing stress. Mindfulness meditation, for example, has shown positive effects on mental health. Given this, craft a blog post outlining the benefits of meditation.
    • Provide positive instructions. Copilot is built to take action, so telling Copilot what “to do” rather than what “not to do” is more effective. Try using “if-then” instructions.
    • Iterate and regenerate: Often the first result isn’t the final or best response. If you’re not satisfied with the results Copilot gave you, revise your prompt, and try again. Try the following three iterations and see how the responses can improve with each iteration.
      • Round 1: Write about advancements in renewable energy technologies.
      • Round 2: Write a technical article discussing recent advancements in renewable energy technologies, focusing on solar and wind energy, for an audience of engineers and environmental scientists.
      • Round 3: Compose a detailed technical article for engineers and environmental scientists, exploring recent advancements and innovations in renewable energy technologies, with a focus on solar and wind energy. Discuss the scientific principles behind these technologies, their efficiency improvements, and real-world applications. Refer to recent research papers, patents, and industry reports for accurate and up-to-date information.
    • Always review and verify the responses you get from Copilot.  Copilot is built upon Large Language Models (LLMs), which are trained to predict the next words and phrases. LLMs can occasionally generate content that is biased, offensive, harmful, or incorrect. Therefore, it is imperative to consistently review and validate the responses for accuracy and appropriateness.

The post Supported languages for Microsoft Copilot appeared first on Microsoft Copilot Blog.

    ]]>
Note: The information in this article pertains to both Copilot for Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Copilot Pro.

If you’re using Microsoft Copilot and you’re getting an error that indicates a language isn’t currently supported, it means that Copilot cannot process information in that language at this time. You can get an unsupported-language message even if the user interface (UI) is translated into your language.

This article describes what to do if you run into an unsupported-language issue and lists the languages that are currently supported.

    What causes an unsupported-language error?

Microsoft 365 apps are localized into the user’s language, based on the user’s app settings. Here are some examples of how users can set their preferred language for various apps:

    • In Microsoft Teams, go to Settings > Language and choose the language you want to use for the Teams UI.
    • In Word, PowerPoint, or Excel, go to your account, choose Settings, and then select Change your language.
    • At Microsoft365.com, go to Settings > Language and time zone > Change your language.
    • At Bing.com > Chat, go to Settings > Language, and then choose a display language and a search results language. The display language is the UI language, and the search results language is what Copilot uses for responses.

Currently, Copilot supports fewer languages than what’s available for the UI. So although you can choose from lots of languages for the UI in Teams, Microsoft 365 Apps, and Bing, Copilot works with a fewer number of languages.

If you type a prompt in Copilot, and the language you’re using or requesting isn’t currently supported, you’ll get an error message.

What do I do if I get a language error in Copilot?

Copilot provides responses to prompts that are written in supported languages.

If you type a prompt that requests content in another language that isn’t currently supported, Copilot displays a message telling you to change your prompt and try again. If you run into this issue, use one of the supported languages for your prompt and try again.

What languages are currently supported in Copilot prompts and responses?

In general, Copilot supports the following languages for prompts:

    • Arabic
    • Chinese (Simplified)
    • Czech
    • Danish
    • Dutch
    • English (United Kingdom)
    • English (United States)
    • Finnish
    • French (Canada)
    • French (France)
    • German
    • Hebrew
    • Hungarian
    • Italian
    • Japanese
    • Korean
    • Norwegian (Bokmål)
    • Polish
    • Portuguese (Brazil)
    • Portuguese (Portugal)
    • Russian
    • Spanish
    • Spanish (Mexico)
    • Swedish
    • Thai
    • Turkish
    • Ukrainian

Important: Excel is only supported in Chinese (Simplified), English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish.

Will more languages be added to Copilot?

Copilot prompts are instructions or questions you use to tell Copilot what you want. Prompts can include four parts: the goal, context, expectations, and source, as described in the following image:

The visual representation of the prompt framework with examples: goal+context+tone+data

You can put a little or a lot into a prompt, but all that’s required is a clear goal. If you want to be more specific, add the other parts. You’ll often need to include more than a goal to get the results you want. Here’s an example prompt in Microsoft 365 chat, that includes a goal and source:  :

Write a summary based on all emails from Sam in the past two weeks.

And here’s an example that includes a goal, context, and the expectations:

Draft an outline of a training manual about time management. Our audience is professionals who work in a hybrid environment and constantly need to attend virtual meetings and meet deadlines. The tone of the document will be friendly and suggestive.

Most likely, you’ll follow up on the results with another prompt. Expect some back-and-forth conversation to get the results you’re looking for.

What can I get done with Copilot prompts?

Copilot is built upon Large Language Models (LLMs) that are connected to your Microsoft 365 apps and data. With Copilot, you can go beyond what you can do with other LLM-powered chatbots by getting data from Microsoft 365 Apps and your internal data, such as articles, reports, emails, presentations, and more. With Copilot, you can create or edit content, ask questions, summarize information, and catch up on things.

    Catch up

To catch up on what happened in a meeting, you can ask Copilot in Teams, “What questions were asked during the meeting?” or “What ideas were presented?”

    Create

Want to create a presentation about time management? Try this prompt with Copilot in PowerPoint:

Create a short presentation about time management.

Want to draft a response to an email announcing a project launch? Try this prompt with Copilot in Outlook:

Write an email to congratulate the project lead and team on the launch.

    Ask

Are you planning a trip? You can ask Copilot, “Give me ideas for a 3-day trip in Hawaii.”

Or, if you’re a team leader who wants to get team members engaged, try asking Copilot, “Give me ideas for a team building activity.”

    Edit

In Word, you can ask Copilot to edit a paragraph for you by selecting the paragraph and choosing the Copilot icon to “Rewrite with Copilot.”

Or you can polish a PowerPoint slide with a prompt like, “Add an image of a target with arrows.”

For enterprise-licensed users, Copilot unlocks business value by connecting Large Language Models (LLMs) to internal business data. Business customers can use prompts like:

    • Create a training course outline to onboard partners to Project X.
    • What’s the latest from Sam?
    • Generate a project kick-off presentation based on the topics discussed in the chat.

There are numerous opportunities with Microsoft Copilot. Find more examples in the Copilot Lab, and adjust them to make them your own.

A few points to keep in mind

    • Review and verify responses you get from Copilot.  Copilot is built upon Large Language Models (LLMs), advanced tools designed to predict and generate text. Occasionally, Copilot responses can include incorrect content, due to the vast and diverse nature of LLMs.  Evaluate Copilot’s responses and cross-reference with trusted sources when needed.
    • Using the same prompt multiple times can result in different responses. As LLMs grow and new information is added, you can get different responses to a prompt you’ve used before.
    • Use Copilot in a respectful, ethical, and lawful manner. Avoid using Copilot for any purpose that might cause harm to yourself or others. See our responsible AI (Artificial Intelligence) principles and standards.
