We’re excited to announce the public preview of Content Security Policy for Power Apps!

Power Apps has had Content Security Policy (CSP) support for model-driven apps since the beginning of the year, which was configured by running script as a System Administrator.

With these new capabilities, you can now control the CSP header for model-driven as well as canvas apps in the environment in Power Platform Admin Center. CSP can be configured in both enforced and report-only mode.

Configuration in Power Platform Admin Center

CSP can be configured using the Content security policy settings under the Privacy + Security section of an environment in Power Platform Admin Center. Turning enforcement on will provide protection against clickjacking attacks for apps in that environment. CSP is configured independently for model-driven and canvas apps, except for reporting which applies to both.

Content security policy setting in Power Platform Admin Center

Reporting and enforcement are disabled by default, and we recommend you turn on enforcement in your production environments only after testing your apps in a sandbox environment with CSP turned on to ensure any intended functionality isn’t blocked due to this change. We also recommend turning reporting-only mode on in production before enforcement to catch any lingering issues before enforcement is enabled.

CSP support for canvas apps

Model-driven apps have had the ability to send default and custom CSP for some time. With this update we’ll support CSP for canvas apps as well. The default and customizable pieces of the CSP header are the same for both model-driven and canvas, but they are configured independently, allowing you to perform a gradual CSP rollout.

Violation reporting

As part of the CSP settings, you can also enable reporting and provide a custom reporting endpoint to receive any content security policy violation reports. This capability helps preview what violations would be blocked before turning it on completely. Refer to the Content Security Policy documentation for details on building reporting endpoint.

Enable CSP reporting setting in Power Platform Admin Center

Please review the documentation for more details and as always, we would love to hear from you on how we could keep improving this feature. Please leave your feedback and comments on this post.

In 2019, we announced the general availability of Solution Checker. This helped many of you analyze your solutions and packages for any issues in your customizations. We got feedback from you that this is very valuable in finding and addressing issues before deploying to production environments.

Today we’re taking a step further and bringing these validations to your development environment to help you find and fix issues in your JavaScript code before being added to a solution. We are excited to announce the public preview of ESLint rules for Power Apps model-driven apps and Dynamics 365 CE.

How to get it?

If you already have the ESLint extension for Visual Studio Code installed, you can get started by adding Power Apps ESLint npm package name and version in package.json in the build tools. Note that the version number will change when this becomes generally available.

Power Apps ESLint npm installation in VS code

Next step is to configure the ESLint rules in the eslintrc file.

eslintrc file

How does it work?

When the npm packaged is installed and the ESLint rules are configured in the eslintrc file, any violations in the code will be caught and listed in the problems console automatically. Hovering over the issue in code will show a detailed description of the violation, corrections needed, and a link to a document that provides more details.

Power Apps ESLint rules in VS Code

Call to action

Install Power Apps ESLint npm package in your development environment and try it. Refer to the documentation to learn more about the rules and detailed instructions.

Please share your feedback/suggestions in this thread.

Since we added this capability, we've seen several of you take advantage of it to bring personal productivity apps to Teams. Starting this week, we're simplifying this experience further by eliminating the need to download the app manifest.

In Nov’19, we introduced “Add to Teams” command in the Power Apps portal to add your canvas apps to Microsoft Teams. Since we added this capability, we’ve seen several of you take advantage of it to bring your personal productivity apps to Teams. Starting this week, we’re simplifying this experience further to make it super easy for you to add your existing Canvas apps to Microsoft Teams.
Add to Teams side panel

The new interface adds a new “Add to Teams” button along with the “Download app” button in the side panel.

Download app button allows you download the app manifest, which can then be uploaded to Teams for personal/team use or can be submitted to Teams tenant admin for broader distribution.

The new “Add to Teams” button eliminates the need to download and upload the app for personal/team use. Clicking this button will take you directly to the app installation dialog in Microsoft Teams.

App installation dialog in Teams

You can follow the instructions in that dialog to add the app to the personal app catalog, to an existing/new chat, or to a channel.App added as a personal app

Getting started is extremely easy. Just navigate to the apps list, select a canvas app, and click Add to Teams. From there, a panel will walk you through all of the necessary steps to add the app to Teams.

Enhanced Add to Teams functionality

As always, please reach out to me if you’ve any feedback.

Ensuring users can leverage the benefits of Outlook in alignment to their business application is often a key ask for most organizations to increase adoption. Dynamics 365 has always been at the forefront of integration solutions from Dynamic 365 for Outlook (also referred to as Outlook COM Add-in) and more recently with the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook, which provides even better value to users with improved capabilities, reliability, and performance.

With the launch of our Unified Interface we now have more opportunity than ever to improve productivity and enable users to better engage with client information across everyday tools such as Outlook. The benefits of adopting the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook for customers and partners are numerous, including:

  • Unified Interface. Dynamics 365 App for Outlook is built on the Unified Interface framework, which uses responsive web design principles to provide an optimal viewing and interaction experience for any screen size, device, or orientation.
  • Global search or multi-entity search. Use global search to search for a keyword in multiple entities at the same time. Global search uses the quick find view for the various entities to search for records.

  • Centralized deployment and distribution by configuring users to the app, makes it easy to onboard users to App for Outlook.

Microsoft will continue to provide support, security and other critical updates to the Outlook COM Add-in until October 1, 2020.

Add new fields while creating your canvas app http://approjects.co.za/?big=en-us/power-platform/blog/power-apps/add-new-fields-while-creating-your-canvas-app/ Wed, 08 May 2019 22:01:00 +0000 While creating apps using the Common Data Service, makers select an entity as the data source and bind it with data controls. While creating apps using the Common Data Service, makers select an entity as the data source and bind it with data controls. This allows them to add fields in the selected data source to a gallery, data table, or form. This is good for fields that are already present in the data source. However, if there is a need to add an additional field, the maker would need to save the app, switch to the entity designer to add the additional field before returning back to the app. This results in unnecessary deviation from their original goal of making an app.

Adding new field in Entity Designer

In order to help the maker stay focused while building apps, we are introducing a new feature to create entity fields inline.  With this feature, makers will now be able to add ‘new’ fields from within the field selection panel’s “Add field” callout. Makers can use the “New field” button on this callout to quickly create a field, or use the “Advanced settings” on the new field callout to create a  field using the full new field panel.

Once a field is created, it gets added to the form automatically.

Inline Field Create

The current release will allow adding primitive data types while working with Edit or Display forms. Support for complex data types (like Lookup, Option Sets etc.,), other data controls, and the ability to add new fields from form designer and view designers will be made available in future releases.

As always, please provide feedback to PowerApps Ideas.
