width=\"1004\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<h1>Split Function<\/h1>\n<p>Got a list of fruit to buy at the market?\u00a0 \u201cApples, Oranges, Bananas\u201d?\u00a0 Need a way to quickly and easily break that string up so that you can check them off, one by one?<\/p>\n<p>Do we have the function for you!\u00a0 Introducing the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/powerapps.microsoft.com\/en-us\/tutorials\/function-split\/\">Split function<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/strong>It takes as input a string to break apart and a separator string to break on, and outputs a table of substrings.\u00a0 So, for the above example:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Split( \u201cApples, Oranges, Bananas\u201d, \u201c,\u201d )<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Results in a table of [ \u201cApples\u201d, \u201c Oranges\u201d, \u201c Bananas\u201d ].\u00a0 Note that there are spaces in front of \u201c Oranges\u201d and \u201c Bananas\u201d.\u00a0 That is because we broke the string up on exactly a single comma and nothing more.\u00a0 We can fix this by changing the separator to look for two characters which includes the space:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Split( \u201cApples, Oranges, Bananas\u201d, \u201c, \u201d )<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Or if we aren\u2019t always sure that there will be a space, or there might be two, we can use the <a href=\"https:\/\/powerapps.microsoft.com\/en-us\/tutorials\/function-trim\/\"><strong>TrimEnds<\/strong> function<\/a> on the result (input is a single column table and output is a single column table):<\/p>\n<p><strong>TrimEnds( Split( \u201cApples, Oranges, Bananas\u201d, \u201c,\u201d ) )<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Both of these methods result in the desired single column table [
