Ashley Llorens leads the Microsoft Research Accelerator organization, which invests in programs and projects that accelerate research and innovation from ideas to impact. His team drives MSR’s engagement with the rest of Microsoft and with the global research and innovation community, investing in initiatives at the intersections of science and technology, business, and society. Prior to joining Microsoft in 2021, Llorens was the founding director of the Intelligent Systems Center for machine learning, robotics, and neuroscience at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. Joining Microsoft as a Distinguished Scientist, his own work has advanced AI and machine learning for autonomous systems across domains including undersea, land, air, and space. Llorens currently serves on the National AI Advisory Committee, advising the U.S. President and the White House on the advancement of AI.
