About

I have one of the best jobs in the industry – pursuing un-tethered research, setting the vision, shepherding brilliant researchers and helping shape Microsoft’s long-term strategy through research, industry partnerships, and associated policy engagement with governments and research institutions around the world.

I pursue research in a variety of topics including: 5G (converging cloud & communications industries), edge computing, live video analytics, mobile computing, wireless systems, cloud services and data center networking & management. Over my career I have built a number of seminal and highly-cited systems, published prolifically in top computer science conferences and journals, authored/co-authored over 165 U.S. patents, given close to five dozen keynotes (including a commencement speech at a major public university), received several prestigious awards and honor (including four lifetime achievement awards), and engaged in significant professional and company-wide leadership activities.

On a personal front, my wife Ritu is the founder & CEO of Computing Kids whose mission is to empower every student in every school by teaching them computer science and its applications. In 2015 my wife & I co-founded a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Computing For All (CFA), whose mission is to break down cultural and systemic social barriers that prevent young adults of all races, genders, and abilities from exploring computer science as a potential career.
