Mengting Wan is a Principal Applied Research Scientist at Microsoft’s Office of Applied Research (opens in new tab). She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where she was advised by Prof. Julian McAuley (opens in new tab). She also holds a master’s degree in Statistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a bachelor’s degree in Statistics from Peking University. She was a Microsoft PhD Fellow from 2017 to 2019.
Her current research focuses on User-Centric Large Language Models (LLMs) and LLM-Based Human-AI Interactive Systems. She is also interested in Recommender Systems, Graph Machine Learning, Computational Social Sciences, and re-thinking research problems in these areas in the context of new capacity enabled by LLMs. She has published more than 30 research papers at top Machine Learning, Data Mining and Natural Language Processing venues, and won the KDD 2022 Best Research Paper Award.
