I am a Partner at Microsoft Research and conduct research into the software capabilities and practices that contribute to successful outcomes for individuals, teams, and organizations. My work has included enterprise and startup advising as well as development, IT operations, and hardware performance. I was an entrepreneur with an exit to Google (opens in new tab).
I am lead author of the Shingo Publication Award-winning book Accelerate: The Science of Lean Software and DevOps (opens in new tab) and am best known as the lead investigator on the largest DevOps studies to date. My work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals including MIS Quarterly, European Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Computational Statistics, IBM Journal of Research and Development, et Journal of Knowledge Management. I earned my PhD in Management Information Systems and Masters in Accounting from the University of Arizona.
