À propos
I work in the areas of spatial audio, computational physics, and computer graphics. I enjoy researching fast approaches to simulate physics in virtual worlds to make them more believable. Over the last decade my focus has been sound synthesis and propagation. My research on Triton (opens in new tab) has brought accurate wave-based propagation effects to major games and virtual reality apps, experienced by millions of people worldwide, like Gears of War and Windows Mixed Reality Portal. Triton has now evolved into Project Acoustics (opens in new tab): a Microsoft product that makes the technology available for all.

Project Triton and the physics of sound with Dr. Nikunj Raghuvanshi
Episode 68, March 20, 2019 - Today, Dr. Raghuvanshi talks about the unique challenges of simulating realistic sound on a budget (both money and CPU), explains how classic ideas in concert hall acoustics need a fresh take for complex games like Gears of War, reveals the computational secret sauce you need to deliver the right sound at the right time, and tells us about Project Triton, an acoustic system that models how real sound waves behave in 3-D game environments to makes us believe with our ears as well as our eyes.
