Michael Zeng is a Microsoft Vice Present and the Research Manager for Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services Research (CSR). He is responsible for research directions, strategies, agenda, and execution of loonshots projects in the following areas: audio and speech, computer vision, knowledge and NLP, and decision.
His current research interests focus on the following areas:
- Large-scale deep learning model training and inference
- Automatic speech recognition
- Computer vision
- Knowledge and natural language processing
- Multimodal human computer interaction and intelligent agents
He joined Microsoft in 1997, and worked on IE, SQL server, Windows, Bing, Cortana, and Cloud & AI. In 2006, he joined Microsoft STC Asia as one of the founding members, and helped grow it from a small team to a R&D powerhouse of over 1800 scientists and engineers in 2018. He held different key leadership positions and was responsible for managing and directing teams in Speech, Natural Language Processing, Bing, Cortana, and Cloud & AI infrastructure. He returned back to US to lead the Speech and Dialogue Research Group in December 2018.
He received his BS and MS in CS from Peking University in 1989 and 1992 respectively.
