In the beginning, security was by physical isolation.



Timesharing brought the basic dilemma of security: Isolation vs. sharing.



Since then, things have steadily gotten worse:



Less isolation, more sharing, no central management.
More valuable stuff in the computer.
Continued misguided search for perfection.
