The center is dedicated to establishing deep and impactful collaborations with academic groups, startups, NGOs, and other organizations interested in positively impacting society through technology. We provide our collaborators with access to researchers, technologies, expertise, and resources from Microsoft Research, as well as other groups within the company such as Microsoft for Startups. We aspire to identify graduation paths for our projects so they can become self-sustaining initiatives. This work has led to high-impact projects such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/project\/99dots\/\">99DOTS<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/publication\/digital-green-participatory-video-for-agricultural-extension\/\">Digital Green<\/a> that have \u201cgraduated\u201d into independent organizations that are achieving global scale and impact, as well as projects such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/publication\/farmbeats-improving-farm-productivity-using-data-driven-agriculture\/\">FarmBeats<\/a> that have transitioned into new businesses for Microsoft. We have also been working with <a class=\"msr-external-link glyph-append glyph-append-open-in-new-tab glyph-append-xsmall\" href=\"https:\/\/translatorswithoutborders.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Translators Without Borders<span class=\"sr-only\"> (opens in new tab)<\/span><\/a> to enable English-Trigrinya translation as a part of Gamayun, a language equality initiative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/project\/learn2earn\/\"><strong>Learn2Earn<\/strong><span class=\"sr-only\"> (opens in new tab)<\/span><\/a> \u2013 In collaboration with <a class=\"msr-external-link glyph-append glyph-append-open-in-new-tab glyph-append-xsmall\" href=\"https:\/\/voicedeck.in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Voicedeck Technologies<span class=\"sr-only\"> (opens in new tab)<\/span><\/a>, we have been developing Learn2Earn, a program that reinforces education and rewards learning through financial incentives. The technology has been used to spread awareness regarding issues ranging from Forest Rights Act, to voter-awareness, to HIV\/AIDS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a We have been working in collaboration with IDTR on the project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/project\/hams\/\">Harnessing AutoMobiles for Safety (HAMS)<\/a> to pilot the technology for driver training. Karya Inc has been working in collaboration to leverage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/project\/project-karya\/\">Project Karya\u2019s<\/a> crowdsourcing platform to provide work and instructions in the regional language of the users. Navana have been leveraging the lab\u2019s HCI expertise to design their product, Zabaan, a software development kit that enables applications to have voice annotations in any language. TWU combines tailored financing solutions with innovative loan management and asset management technology to offer a competitive loan, removing barriers for uptake, while de-risking their lending. Researchers at Microsoft have been working with TWU to improve the financial inclusion of these communities and provide design input to TWU for their products and service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have also worked with TWU on a project called Turn2Earn that incentivizes auto-drivers to take specific routes to collect ground-level pollution data.
