{"id":170958,"date":"2012-05-24T15:51:03","date_gmt":"2012-05-24T15:51:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/project\/user-experience-with-big-data\/"},"modified":"2020-03-13T08:46:13","modified_gmt":"2020-03-13T15:46:13","slug":"user-experience-with-big-data","status":"publish","type":"msr-project","link":"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/project\/user-experience-with-big-data\/","title":{"rendered":"User Experience with Big Data"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"asset-content\">\n<p>Big data analytics requires new workflows: high latency queries, massively-parallel code, and cloud computing infrastructures all make handling a big dataset different (and harder) than working on a local machine.<\/p>\n<p>We are exploring user experiences for analysts, and thinking about new ways to deal with big datasets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- .asset-content --><\/p>\n<div id=\"en-usprojectsbigdatauxdefault\" class=\"page-content\">\n<h2>BigDataUX: building a better user experience for Big Data<\/h2>\n<p>Lots of different definitions can be found for &#8220;big data,&#8221; but they all have one aspect in common: big data is <strong>inconvenient<\/strong>. It&#8217;s too big to fit on screen, or in memory, or on disk. There are more fields than are easy to articulate.\u00a0 And it is so ill-organized and messy that it will take a fair bit of nursing to get it into usable shape.<\/p>\n<p>We want to explore what technologies will make it easier for users\u2014for data scientists, business intelligence analysts, or anyone with a dataset\u2014to clean, process, and interact with big datasets.
