A judicious choice<br \/>\nmust be cost-driven and influenced by the<br \/>\nworkload experienced by the system. Although<br \/>\nthere has been work in materialized view<br \/>\nselection in the context of multidimensional<br \/>\n(OLAP) databases, no past work has looked at<br \/>\nthe problem of building an industry-strength tool<br \/>\nfor automated selection of materialized views<br \/>\nand indexes for SQL workloads. In this paper,<br \/>\nwe present an end-to-end solution to the problem<br \/>\nof selecting materialized views and indexes. We<br \/>\ndescribe results of extensive experimental<br \/>\nevaluation that demonstrate the effectiveness of<br \/>\nour techniques.
