Motion information that is required<br \/>\nin motion compensated prediction is transmitted as side<br \/>\ninformation, as in forward motion estimation, or can be<br \/>\ncomputed at the receiver in backward motion estimation.<br \/>\nThe former method has the advantage of more accurate<br \/>\nprediction but, suffers in that the motion information is<br \/>\ntransmitted as side information. We introduce the Motion<br \/>\nTransform (MT), a new motion estimation and compensation<br \/>\ntechnique that does not require the transmission of motion<br \/>\nvectors yet, performs well under a variety of conditions.<br \/>\nIn the proposed method, motion information is obtained in<br \/>\na bottom-up hierarchical fashion using a two-dimensional<br \/>\nwavelet-like decomposition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- .asset-content --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Motion estimation plays an important role in video coding schemes by removing temporal redundancies that exist in image sequences.
