Your computer is up to date when you’ve installed the latest updates for\u00a0Windows\u00a0and for your computer programs. To get updates for\u00a0Windows\u00a0and other Microsoft programs at the same time, including updates for Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and more), go to the\u00a0Microsoft Update\u00a0website.<\/p>\n

If you’re already using\u00a0Microsoft\u00a0Update, which works with\u00a0Windows\u00a0automatic updating,\u00a0Windows\u00a0Update in the Control Panel will automatically open and display your update status.<\/p>\n

Turn on automatic updating<\/b><\/p>\n

To help ensure that you get your updates automatically, click Change settings<\/b>. Under Important updates<\/b> choose Install updates automatically (recommended)<\/b>.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t want to use Microsoft Update, you can follow these steps to get updates just for Windows:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Open\u00a0Windows\u00a0Update by clicking the\u00a0Start<\/b>\u00a0button\u00a0, clicking\u00a0All Programs<\/b>, and then clicking\u00a0Windows\u00a0Update<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  2. In the left pane, click\u00a0Check for updates<\/b>, and then wait while\u00a0Windows\u00a0looks for the latest updates for your computer.<\/li>\n
  3. If any updates are found, click\u00a0Install updates<\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    To check for updates for other software programs and devices, go to the publisher’s or manufacturer’s website.<\/p>\n
