A number of known vulnerabilities has been reported against SSL and earlier versions of TLS which has changed the security guidance to move to TLS 1.2 for support secure communication.<\/p>\n<p>There has been no known vulnerability that has been reported for Microsoft&#8217;s TDS implementation which is the communication protocol used between SQL Server clients and the SQL Server database engine.<\/p>\n<p>As of January 29, Microsoft SQL Server supports TLS 1.2 for <strong>SQL Server 2008<\/strong>, <strong>SQL Server 2008 R2<\/strong>, <strong>SQL Server 2012<\/strong> and <strong>SQL Server 2014<\/strong> and major client drivers like <strong>Server Native Client<\/strong>, <strong>Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server<\/strong>, <strong>Microsoft JDBC Driver for SQL Server<\/strong> and <strong>ADO.NET (SqlClient)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You can read more about the release <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/sqlreleaseservices\/archive\/2016\/01\/29\/tls-1-2-support-for-sql-server-2008-2008-r2-2012-and-2014.aspx\">here<\/a>.
