{"id":1613,"date":"2014-01-21T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-21T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2024-01-22T22:49:03","modified_gmt":"2024-01-23T06:49:03","slug":"hortonworks-makes-hdp-2-0-for-windows-server-generally-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/2014\/01\/21\/hortonworks-makes-hdp-2-0-for-windows-server-generally-available\/","title":{"rendered":"Hortonworks Makes HDP 2.0 for Windows Server Generally Available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, Hortonworks announced the general availability of the Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) 2.0 for Windows.\u00a0 This is the next release of the industry\u2019s only 100% Apache Hadoop-based distribution for Windows.\u00a0With Windows Server leading all operating system\u00a0 in usage share (two out of every three servers run Windows Server), HDP 2.0 for Windows dramatically broadens the accessibility of Hadoop.<\/p>\n<p>This release is important because it is engineered on the latest version of Apache Hadoop 2.2.\u00a0 It will take advantage of the <a href=\"http:\/\/hortonworks.com\/labs\/yarn\/\">power of YARN<\/a>, offer improved<a href=\"http:\/\/hortonworks.com\/blog\/namenode-high-availability-in-hdp-2-0\/\">\u00a0 high availability<\/a> and mean time to recovery, and incorporate phase 2 of <a href=\"http:\/\/hortonworks.com\/labs\/stinger\/\">the Stinger initiative<\/a> and Hbase 0.96 to deliver Snapshots.<\/p>\n<p>As part of our overall big data approach, we are deeply invested in ensuring customers have choice and interoperability when building and running Hadoop-based solutions. This includes providing customers the choice to deploy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.windowsazure.com\/en-us\/services\/hdinsight\/?WT.mc_id=blog_DPI_HWX_HDP2GA\">Hadoop data in the cloud on Windows Azure<\/a>.\u00a0Applications built on HDP for Windows on-prem can be easily deployed in the cloud for platform flexibility. Additionally, customers can leverage <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/powerbi\/default.aspx?WT.mc_id=blog_DPI_HWX_HDP2GA\">Power BI for Office 365<\/a> to connect to either HDP 2.0 for Windows or Windows Azure HDInsight to empower Microsoft Excel users with compelling insights on big data.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re partnering closely with Hortonworks to bring the community new Hadoop solutions for Windows.
