To learn more, please <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/microsoft\/azuredatastudio\">visit our GitHub.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The key highlights to cover this month include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SandDance integration\u2014A new way to interact with data<\/li>\n<li>Notebook improvements<\/li>\n<li>SQL Server Dacpac extension can support Azure Active Directory<\/li>\n<li>SQL Server 2019 extension<\/li>\n<li>Visual Studio Code merge 1.37<\/li>\n<li>Bug fixes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For a complete list of updates, please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/sql\/azure-data-studio\/release-notes\">release notes.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>SandDance integration\u2014A new way to interact with data<\/h2>\n<p>To enhance customers\u2019 data visualization and exploration experience within Azure Data Studio, we&#8217;re pleased to announce the new feature, <em>visualizer.<\/em> This feature is currently powered by <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/microsoft\/SandDance\">SandDance<\/a>, a data visualization tool developed by Microsoft Research.<\/p>\n<h3>Feature highlights<\/h3>\n<p><em>Smart chart detection:<\/em><br \/>\nSandDance 1.30 is now supporting the smart chart detection feature. This feature will recommend a suitable default chart configuration including chart type, aces, and color based on the data set.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment-full size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Smart-Chart.gif\" alt=\"Smart chart feature in Azure Data Studio.\" width=\"600\" height=\"412\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>3D visualizations:<\/em><br \/>\nSandDance supports three-dimension visualization that brings your data set to life.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment-full size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/3d.gif\" alt=\"a screenshot of a cell phone\" width=\"600\" height=\"390\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Data sorting:<\/em><br \/>\nSandDance supports data sorting. Customers can select, isolate, and exclude data within SandDance without writing a single line of code. This allows you to expedite your data visualization and modification experience.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment-full size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Filter-Data.gif\" alt=\"Filter data feature in Azure Data Studio.\" width=\"600\" height=\"412\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>How can I start using it?<\/h3>\n<p>To start using this feature in Azure Data Studio, you will need to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/sql\/azure-data-studio\/extensions\">Download the extension<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Connect to SQL Server instance<\/li>\n<li>Run a query<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>visualizer <\/strong>button in the results grid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To learn more about using this extension, please <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/sql\/azure-data-studio\/sanddance-extension?view=sql-server-2017\">read our SandDance documentation.<\/a> We would like to acknowledge our Garage interns: Rachel Kim, Candice Ye, Rebecca Wang, Charmaine Chan, and Ian Yu, who have worked on this integration and improved experiences within SandDance this summer.<\/p>\n<h2>Notebook improvements<\/h2>\n<p>SQL Notebooks continue to be adopted by more and more users for demos, troubleshooting, education, and documentation. As we continue to bring in new features in Notebooks, we have been focusing on quality and performance to make sure notebooks are a first-class experience for our users.<\/p>\n<h3>Add code or text cell in-line<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment-full size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/add.code_.inline.gif\" alt=\"Add code cell in-line, Azure Data Studio.\" width=\"1227\" height=\"701\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Improvements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to right-click SQL results grid to save your results as CSV, JSON, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Improvements to notebook loading performance for loading JSON faster<\/li>\n<li>View the full list of improvements in <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/microsoft\/azuredatastudio\/issues?q=is%3Aissue+label%3A%22Area%3A+Notebooks%22+milestone%3A%22August+2019+Release%22+is%3Aclosed\">GitHub<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have not tried SQL Notebooks yet, you can get started by <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/sql\/azure-data-studio\/sql-notebooks\">following along with our SQL Notebooks documentation.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>SQL Server Dacpac extension now supports Azure Active Directory<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/sql\/azure-data-studio\/sql-server-dacpac-extension?view=sql-server-2017\">SQL Server Dacpac extension<\/a>, known as the data-tier application wizard from SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), is powered by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuget.org\/packages\/Microsoft.SqlServer.DacFx.x64\/\">DacFx<\/a> in the backend. In this release, we added support for Azure Active Directory (AAD) authentication in the SQL Server Dacpac extension, which was previously enabled in the last DacFx release.
