DermaTran is based on the official implementation of the academic paper “TFormer: A Throughout Fusion Transformer for Multi-Modal Skin Lesion Diagnosis.” The software requires the installation of Python. DermaTran includes a modified Transformer Model optimized for classification accuracy. It does not require submission of management metadata. It achieves 74.4% diagnostic accuracy on the Seven-Point Checklist Dermatology Dataset. DermaTran is intended to help medical professionals and researchers evaluate the effectiveness and applicability of Transformer based skin lesion categorization algorithms. For non-medical professionals, DermaTran should only be used for entertainment purposes.
Photo Requirements: To ensure accuracy, DermaTran requires two types of photos:
1. Clinical Photos: These are standard photos taken with a regular camera or smartphone, capturing the overall appearance of the skin lesion and surrounding area. Clinical photos are essential for documenting the lesion’s size, shape, and color in a broader context.
2. Dermoscopy Photos: These are close-up images taken with a dermatoscope, a specialized device that uses magnification and lighting to reveal detailed structures of the skin not visible to the naked eye. Dermoscopy photos provide critical information about the lesion’s internal patterns and colors, aiding in more accurate diagnosis.
Approaching Dermoscopy Photos Without a Dermatoscope: If you don’t have access to a dermatoscope, you may still capture detailed images by following these steps:
1. Use a Smartphone Camera: Hold the camera as close to the lesion as possible without losing focus. Ensure good lighting to highlight the lesion’s details.
2. Magnifying Lens: Consider attaching a magnifying lens to your smartphone camera to enhance the image quality. These lenses are affordable and can significantly improve the clarity of close-up photos.
3. Steady Hands: Keep your hands steady or use a tripod to avoid blurry images. You can also ask someone to help you hold the camera steady.
4. Lighting: Use natural light or a bright lamp to illuminate the lesion. Avoid using the camera flash directly, as it can create glare and obscure details.
Pricing and Support: The free version of DermaTran displays sponsor pages during filter design. Upgrade to the full version for $49.95 to disable sponsor pages and gain access to dedicated technical support via email.
