Core technologies and architecture

The IAM platform uses sophisticated multi-database architecture to efficiently manage various aspects of agreement processing and management. At the heart of the IAM platform isĀ Azure AI, which automates manual tasks and processes agreements using machine learning models. The workflow begins with agreement data stored in anĀ Azure SQL DatabaseĀ and is then transferred through an ingestion pipeline to Navigator, an intelligent agreements repository. Navigator prepares key portions of each agreement and sends them toĀ Azure OpenAI ServiceĀ via API calls with specific prompts.Ā Azure Blob StorageĀ houses the raw PDF documents associated with each agreement, providing on-demand rendering through the Navigator user interface.

TheĀ Azure SQL DatabaseĀ Hyperscale service tierĀ serves as the primary transactional engine, providing virtually unlimited storage capacity and the ability to scale compute and storage resources independently.

Azure OpenAI Service asynchronously processes information, extracting key details such as renewal dates, terms, and contracting parties. The results are then retrieved from a queue and stored in bothĀ Azure Cosmos DBĀ and Azure Elasticsearch. This sophisticated architecture uses advanced indexing and search algorithms, giving Docusign the ability to offer intelligent, data-driven features that quickly surface relevant information from vast agreement databases. As a result, the value of Navigator is more advanced, empowering users with the critical insights they need to make well-informed business decisions.

Azure Cosmos DB hosts the Docusign Agreement Data Model (ADM) database, which stores key metadata for each agreement and envelope, including AI-generated extractions and enrichments. This NoSQL database solution provides the scalability and flexibility required for handling diverse agreement data structures, ensuring low-latency data retrieval and consistency across regions. It delivers timely, interactive responses on agreement data, identifying patterns and insights, eliminating bottlenecks, and supporting efficient operations across multiple tenants in the customer-facing applications.

Azure Logic AppsĀ plays a crucial role in orchestrating complex workflows within the IAM platform in a no-code, low-code solution called Maestro. This orchestration service is designed to give users across the experience spectrum the ability to automate workflows and build connections that work with their existing business systems. Logic Apps offers full-stack capabilities that maintain operational consistency, security, and governance across cloud and on-premises environments. With Azure Logic Apps, Docusign empowers organizations to accelerate business solutions without being hindered by infrastructure complexity. The serviceā€™s extensive connector library seamlessly interoperates with various systems and services, enhancing the overall flexibility and power of the IAM platform.

A robust set of RESTful APIs delivers seamless interoperation with existing human resource, procurement, and sales systems such as customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), and human capital management (HCM) platforms.

In addition, the Docusign Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) solution for complex enterprise agreements is hosted onĀ Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)Ā to provide efficient, automated scaling of containerized applications. This AI app architecture facilitates rapid deployment and updates of individual components without affecting the entire system.
