About us

Microsoft Research Asia (MSR Asia), established in 1998, is Microsoft’s research arm in the Asia-Pacific region, with research labs and personnel located in Beijing, Shanghai, Vancouver, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong and Seoul. The lab conducts basic and applied research in areas central to Microsoft’s long-term strategy and computing vision, including computing fundamentals, intelligent interactions, multi-modal perception and communication, AI and society, and AI for industry and science. Over the years, the lab has constantly birthed innovative technologies, creating significant scientific and social impact within Microsoft and around the world.

As part of Microsoft Research’s global network, MSR Asia embraces a global perspective and employs diverse talents from around the world, harmoniously blending the finest innovative cultures from both the East and the West. At MSR Asia, researchers are free to explore and pursue their interests in an open and collaborative environment. This culture has not only driven the creation of groundbreaking technologies but has also established the lab as a natural partner for both academia and industry in the Asia-Pacific region.
