I am a Principal Researcher in the Software Analysis and Intelligence (SAINTES) Team (opens in new tab) (now a part of the Human Centered AI Experiences Group- HCAIX) at Microsoft Research (opens in new tab) in Redmond, WA, USA. (opens in new tab)I am also an Affiliate Assistant Professor at the University of Washington in the Human-Centered Design and Engineering department.
I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science and Graduate Minor in Cognitive Science at North Carolina State University where I was advised by Chris Parnin (opens in new tab). My dissertation identified the cognitive and social barriers to participating in online socio-technical ecosystems. Specifically, I outlined a framework of how to use “Identity-Based Signals and E-Mentorship to Support Engagement in Online Programming Communities.”
My current research focuses on how to build empathetic mechanisms for software engineers to collaborate globally through an extended cultural lens.
