About
I am an expert qualitative researcher, with a focus on the unstructured problems within software engineering: the human aspects of engineering productivity. I design and carry out, in partnership with data scientists, empirical mixed-method research on developer experience and the workflows, tools, and practices which drive success for organizations, teams, and individual developers.
My research has inspired the development of prototypes, training programs and playbooks that have changed the state of practice within best-in-class tech companies, from Microsoft and IBM to GitHub and Atlassian.
I received my PhD in Computer Science from the University of Victoria. My award-winning research has been published in the top software engineering peer-reviewed venues, including the Empirical Software Engineering journal, the International Conference on Software Engineering, and the IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering journal.
