About
Emily is a scientist at the Sociotechnical Alignment Center (STAC) at Microsoft Research NYC. She is generally interested in better understanding how harms may arise from systems that rely on language, and how these harms can be evaluated and lessened in systematic and valid ways. Recently, she has been specifically interested in evaluations, and challenges that arise between research and practice when conducting evaluations. Emily has a BA in computer science and cognitive science from UC Berkeley and an MS and PhD in computer science from the University of Southern California.
