Javier Hernandez is a Principal Researcher at the MSR HUE team at Microsoft Research and an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing.
Javier’s research is focused on the development of emotionally intelligent tools to deepen the understanding of humans, fostering improved health and quality of life. Specifically, Javier has made several contributions in the realm of daily life stress, using technology to enhance its measurement, understanding, and management. Javier’s work has been featured by a wide variety of media outlets, including National Geographic, The Economist, and The Times. He has received multiple recognitions, such as the MIT TR 35 and several best paper awards. He frequently gives guest lectures at MIT and other universities, and speaks at a wide range of conferences and venues.
Javier earned a B.S. in Computer Systems Engineering in 2004 and an M.S. in Information Technology in 2007 from Ramon Llull University (Barcelona, Spain). He also received an M.S. in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in 2010 from Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, USA), and a Ph.D. in Media Arts and Sciences in 2015 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, USA).
