About
Mei Chen is a Principal Research Manager at Microsoft Cloud & AI. She leads ROAR (Responsible & Open Ai Research) that builds state-of-the-art multimodal multilingual technology that is context-aware and culturally sensitive to serve diverse customer needs. ROAR’s models have been shipped in new Bing (opens in new tab) powered by LLM, Bing Image Creator (opens in new tab) powered by DALL-E 2, Office Designer (opens in new tab) powered by DALL-E 2, Azure OpenAI Service (opens in new tab), Github Copilot (opens in new tab), and the Azure Content Moderator Service (opens in new tab).
From 2018 to 2020, Mei served as Chief Scientist to the Corporate Vice President for Computer Vision at Microsoft. From 2014 to 2018, she was an Associate Professor at the State University of New York at Albany. From 2011 to 2014, she built and led the Intel Science & Technology Center on Embedded Computing (ISTC-EC) with $7.5 Million research funding. The ISTC-EC was hosted at Carnegie Mellon, driving research along collaborative perception, real time machine learning, robotics, and embedded architecture together with seven universities including Cornell, Georgia Tech, Penn State, UC Berkeley, UIUC, UPenn, and UW.
Mei’s work in computer vision and biomedical image analysis (opens in new tab) has been nominated finalists for six Best Paper Awards and won three. She holds over 30 patents granted by the USPTO. Her services to the research community include journal editors for IJCV (opens in new tab) and MVA (opens in new tab), Conference Chair at CVPR (opens in new tab) and ICVS (opens in new tab), Area Chairs at CVPR (opens in new tab), ICCV (opens in new tab), and Workshop Chairs for Multimodal Content Moderation (opens in new tab) and Computer Vision for Microscopy Image Analysis (opens in new tab) at CVPR. She earned a Ph.D. in Robotics from the School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University, and a M.S. and B.S. from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.
Current Services:
Chair, 8th IEEE Workshop on Computer Vision for Microscopy Image Analysis (CVMI'2023)
The 8th IEEE Workshop on Computer Vision for Microscopy Image Analysis (CVMI) will be held in conjunction with the CVPR 2023 conference. This workshop will bring together computer vision experts from academia, industry, and government who have made progress in developing computer vision tools for microscopy image analysis. It will provide a comprehensive forum on this topic and foster in-depth discussion of technical and application issues. It will also serve as an introduction to researchers and students curious about this important and fruitful field.
