Vijay Mital is CVP and Chief Advisor for AI Transformations at Microsoft Research. He advises senior leaders on GenAI-led product, process and platform innovation in enterprises, government agencies and philanthropic ecosystems. He also drives research on evaluating and optimizing this transformation at scale, including AI by which an organization can measure the relative value of its investments in data and modeling.

Earlier in Microsoft, he created platforms like Science Engine to harness AI for pharma, new energy, carbon capture and chemicals industries; and PowerApps, the market leader in empowering non-programmers to turn their expertise into robust applications. As CVP of ambient computing and robotics, he created systems for coordinating and assisting unstructured work in large industrial space. Before Microsoft, Vijay founded two venture-funded startups in Silicon Valley and was previously a visiting full professor in the United Kingdom.

An area of particular passion and resonance for Vijay is how Generative AI presents an opportunity for Global South countries, including LMIC, to radically uplevel and upskill their populations and leapfrog into advanced manufacturing and innovation. He works with philanthropic and government bodies on directions rooted in their own culture and values.
