Prior to joining Microsoft, she was a Lead Machine Learning Engineer/Scientist at IQVIA where she developed AI algorithms from electronic health records to diagnose rare diseases. Prior to that she was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre du Physique Théorique of Marseille, researching on multi-wave astronomical data and Bayesian inference to probe fundamental physics.
Her more recent work includes:
- deep learning for diagnostic on multi-scale and multi-staining histopathology images
- vision-language models for radiology report generation
- representation learning for medical data
- virtual images for remote-sensing space instruments
Valentina holds a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Physics, and a PhD in Astrophysics, from La Sapienza University of Rome.
