This white paper is the output of a multidisciplinary workshop in Nairobi (November 2023), led by a cross-organizational team including Microsoft Research, Microsoft Philanthropies, University of Pretoria (opens in new tab), NEPAD (opens in new tab), Lelapa AI (opens in new tab), and Oxford University (opens in new tab).

Workshop highlights

The November 2023 workshop brought together thought leaders from across the continent to explore the impact of generative AI on the future of work in Africa, and to identify the skills, policies, and design principles that can support dignified work on the continent. The workshop featured keynotes by Dr. Bitange Ndemo, Dr. Njeri Mwagiru, and Professor Landry Signé along with highlight talks by thought-leaders working across Africa.
