How to update your Surface drivers and operating system

How do you update the drivers and software on your Surface device?

  1. Make sure your Surface device is connected to the internet and plugged into its charger.
  2. Attach your Surface Dock, Surface Type Cover, or other Surface attachments so they can receive any available updates, too.
  3. Select Start on your Microsoft Surface device.
  4. Go to Settings.
  5. Click Windows Update.
  6. Select Check for Windows updates.
  7. Click Install Now if updates are available.

To download optional updates:

  1. Type View optional updates in your Windows taskbar and click enter.
  2. Select the View optional updates tab in the results.
  3. Check the updates you want to install.
  4. Make sure to also check all the driver updates with the name Surface in them.
  5. Click Install Now.
