Positive impact entrepreneurs are the trailblazers of the business world, driven by a deep sense of purpose to create meaningful change. Unlike traditional entrepreneurs solely focused on profits, these individuals prioritize tackling global challenges such as environmental sustainability, social equity, and community development. Their motivation stems from a desire to align business goals with broader social and environmental objectives, aiming to leave a lasting positive impact on the world.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global objectives crafted by the United Nations in 2015 under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These goals are a clarion call to eradicate poverty, preserve the environment, and ensure prosperity worldwide. Encompassing a broad spectrum of interconnected challenges like poverty eradication, gender equality, sustainable economic growth, climate action, and access to quality education and healthcare, the SDGs provide a comprehensive framework for progress. Each goal is accompanied by specific targets and indicators to gauge advancements toward achieving them by 2030. Serving as a roadmap for collaboration among governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and individuals, the SDGs aim to forge a more sustainable and equitable future for humanity and the planet. Microsoft's Entrepreneurship for Positive Impact programs support entrepreneurs working on one or more of the UN SDGs.

We prioritize collaboration with Social Entrepreneurs and Digital Natives who are deeply committed to driving meaningful change. When evaluating program suitability, we assess several key factors, including the strength of the technology solution and its potential impact, the presence of clearly defined methods for measuring social impact, efforts to supporthistorically under-resourced communities within the applicant's region, team diversity, and engagement with local social issues. While we support entrepreneurs working on any of the UN SDGs, we look for alignment with our core focus areas, namely Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16). These criteria ensure that our program fosters ventures that not only demonstrate innovation but also contribute significantly to addressing pressing global challenges and promoting sustainable development.
