Agência Bori’s mission is to bring science closer to society through the press and in doing so significantly expand the presence of Brazilian science in individual and public decision making. This can be seen in the almost 3,000 journalists across Brazil who access the platform daily and that on average one ​scientific study​​ ​every two days is ​brought​​ ​forward to the press from the platform.

The partnership has also facilitated the approval of the Nedamco Africa Academy, which equips communities with skills to sustain and expand climate technology solutions, leading to subsidized Microsoft licenses and laptops, and established EY as a strategic partner, offering the EY Green Skills Passport to trainees. Additionally, Microsoft's backing enabled Nedamco to launch innovative water management projects in Ethiopia and gain support for government contracts in Ethiopia and Rwanda. Agência Bori is a Brazilian startup platform that offers news and scientific training to journalists. The platform offers journalists a range of ​yet ​unpublished research from Brazilian institutions in areas such as health, the environment and the economy as well as​ an informative text outlining the study and​ ​direct ​contacts for spokespeople who can speak to the research. The platform also hosts a range of contact details of scientists who are willing, and ​trained by Bori's team, ​to speak to the press on these topics.

Since its creation in 2020, the project has already managed to generate an impact on the creation of public policies, mainly in the health and environmental areas. Through a metadata bank, application of data science and artificial intelligence, it is possible to select the most interesting articles to be shared with scientific journals, the press and decision makers. ​In 2022, Agencia Bori was recognized by WHO for the work achieved with journalists in Brazil during the covid-19 health crisis. ​

As part of the hackathon in 2022, Agência Bori won the Hack for Positive Impact Entrepreneurs executive challenge by creating a database of scientific papers which is still growing, and during the latest Hackathon in September 2023,they were able to apply GenAI to this database and organize it to provide​ scientific information​ ​directly ​to key decision makers, such as governments and policy makers.

BeeOdiversity provide measurement tools, advice and nature-based solutions to make businesses a reference for biodiversity and pollutant reduction. They have made use of tools shared by Microsoft and Accenture to develop “BeeOimpact,” a system which uses machine learning to extrapolate data over large areas to assess the impact of an activity on local biodiversity. In the Azure cloud, BeeOmonitoring uses machine learning in Azure Data Factory to identify areas where pesticides may be in high concentrations. This brings the benefits of bee-gathered data to much broader areas at a much lower cost.

The company analyses reasons behind bee colony collapses as well as any issues in local biodiversity. The causes include habitat loss, increased vulnerability to pests and diseases and the use of pesticides. Nguyen, one of the company’s founders invented a system that knocks a tiny bit of pollen off the worker bees as they return to the hive – enough for research, but not so much as to rob the bees of nutrition. Using laboratory analysis and AI models to establish some correlations between results, BeeOdiversity can identify more than 500 pesticides and heavy metals, as well as the plants in the area. Once the data is analyzed, BeeOdiversity scientists make recommendations to clients and stakeholders to improve the overall environment and reduce the use of pesticides.

This helps contribute to the preservation of local biodiversity but also helps to track pollution and contribute to food security as bees pollenate 71 out of the 100 crop species that provide 90% of food worldwide. BeeOdiversity currently work in 17 countries around the world monitoring over 100,000 hectares of land.

Drishtee is a social enterprise that enables community access to critical services and products, market linkages and capital as well as capacity building support to rural micro-entrepreneurs.

As a social enterprise, Drishtee works towards creating an impact in villages by creating an eco-system of micro-enterprises run by entrepreneurs with a specific focus on women. They identify a number of potential entrepreneurs and train them with the skills they will need to succeed. In each cluster of villages, Drishtee enables livelihood through skill training, access to capital and innovative rural supply chain systems. Drishtee provides a sound kiosk-based platform to deliver services such as health, education, banking, micro-finance, and livelihood services. Drishtee is currently working in more than 600 villages in India.

Through the Hackathon in 2023 Drishtee worked with Microsoft towards video language localization using AI, which can provide program participants with localized educational content.

Drishtee is also part of the Microsoft Leadership for Positive Impact Program and receiving coaching from their Microsoft Leader Rekha Talluri.

Enliven is a VR-powered training platform dedicated to transforming diversity, equity and inclusion training in workplaces. Its immersive and interactive simulations cover topics like gender bias, bullying, racism and sexual harassment.  The innovative Train Empathy Platform harnesses the latest in virtual reality and game technology to help individuals and organizations better understand the experiences of others. By immersing users in simulations that recreate experiences of discrimination, bias, or trauma, they provide a unique window into the world of others.

ICE connects the unconnected through clean and affordable micro-utilities powered by solar energy. The company, founded in Nigeria in 2016 sought to address the lack of electricity in communities which was often only available for less than 3-4 hours a day, impacting many small businesses and subsequent economies. Powered by the Microsoft Azure Cloud, ICE empowers and trains young people to address this issue by creating green and affordable energy for their own communities.

ICE’s mission is to develop reliable, distributed solar micro-utilities in the most vulnerable communities around the world. Their goal is to achieve this mission by empowering young adults with digital skills and providing clean energy for small businesses to boost their growth. Through this process, ICE also seeks to address the issues of high youth unemployment.

Through the use of Microsoft AI and Azure Machine Learning, ICE is expanding financial inclusion and energy access for vulnerable small businesses. More specifically, ICE Solar is using Azure’s Machine learning to mobilize and equip local youth fellows to source market intelligence data from last-mile communities for off-grid electrification. This is part of a wider youth initiative called Ignite. Designed to digitally upskill with partner Nigerian universities, it engages youth graduates in technical education and vocational skills in preparation for a career in renewable energy and technology. Additionally, ICE also utilizes AI through its Catalyst application. This is an embedded finance application that uses a novel Machine Learning-enabled framework. This leverages energy demand, pay-as-you-go solar energy payments, customer credit history, and KYC information, to estimate credit worthiness for cash flow-based supply chain microfinance to solar-connected microbusiness customers. The Machine Learning engine behind Catalyst-ML enables ICE Solar to accelerate underserved microbusiness customers’ digital transformation.

ICE has successfully worked with youth to investigate more than 1,200 sites for generation, identifying over 13,000 mainly woman-led small business that could benefit from this solution. Microsoft is supporting ICE’s mission to upskill 10,000 youth and connect over 100,00 underserved small businesses to clean energy by 2025.

Pina Earth enables forest owners to participate in the voluntary carbon market by digitizing the manual certification process, aided by remote sensing and artificial intelligence.

Pina Earth is an online platform that calculates and certifies how much carbon dioxide a forest can sequester. The technology uses forest growth simulations that are supported by climate models to analyze forest development over the next few decades. It provides adaptation recommendations such as planting tree species or natural rejuvenation to create climate resilient forests which can store additional carbon. After analysis and a third-party audit by TÜV, Pina Earth issues a carbon credit for each additional ton of CO2 stored. The proceeds from the credit sale enable forest owners to finance their adaptation measures and companies to actively contribute to climate protection.

Pina Earth strives to combine sustainable climate protection with growing prosperity in the world with the help of digital innovation. With this mission, Pina Earth won the 10toGO thinkathon organized by Microsoft Germany and Volkswagen in March 2021 and has since been supported by Microsoft with a particular focus on personal coaching and consulting. More recently Pina earth has been integrating AI into a long-term technology-based approach giving forest owners the advantage of being compensated for the various ecosystem services of the forest through new business models.

Sehat Kahani ("the story of health") is a digital platform created by two female doctors to democratize access to healthcare in Pakistan by creating a network of virtual doctors, specialists, and mental health experts, available 24/7 at its walk-in clinics or via its mobile app. With its e-diagnostics and e-pharmacy capabilities, patients' needs can all be met under one roof.

Pakistan suffers from is a unique supply and demand gap, with a lot of patients and very few doctors. Around 15% of Pakistani Doctors leave the country for better opportunities abroad, and of the 80% of qualified female doctors, less than 40% end up practicing due to the societal norms of a women staying at home and raising children after marriage. As a result, 50% of the Pakistani population lacks access to healthcare.

The founders of Sehat Kahani had a vision to create a world where no one is left behind in receiving essential healthcare services and saw an opportunity to close the divide in patient/doctor ratio by utilizing the many qualified female doctors residing in Pakistan. Sehat Kahini started its journey by creating e-health hubs, equipping remote clinics in low-income communities with computers equipped with telemedicine software and video call solutions. They also developed an app that could connect patients with doctors in less than a minute.

Through the Microsoft Entrepreneurship for Positive Impact, Sehat Kahani was able to use the Azure cloud platform to upscale its technology and improve its app capabilities, to store and analyze patient healthcare histories. With the help of Microsoft tools such as Power BI, they were able to create an entire dashboard of all activity, including numbers of consultations per day, the disease ailments, and the geographical divisions - accessible at a click of a button. Currently Sehat Kahani’s mobile application has more than 1million downloads and they are working with employees from over 400+ corporations across Pakistan who have enabled access to the Sehat Kahani services for their employees. Using Microsoft’s Power BI, they are better able to manage the wealth of data this creates.

Access to Microsoft Founders Hub also meant Sehat Kahani became connected to a wealth of mentors and VCs to support them in fundraising and provide ongoing guidance. The team also capitalized on the many Microsoft webinars made available to them, utilizing lessons on skill building, scale, growth, artificial intelligence, and learning new programming languages.

The next step for Sehat Kahani is to utilize AI and big data analytics to manage speech-to-text transcription solutions and handwriting recognition in order to digitalize all data into a unique electronic medical records system. With the help of Microsoft, Sehat Kahani will integrate machine learning and AI tools to predict patients upcoming care, working towards its goal of making healthcare preventative rather than just curative.

Twin Science with the help of the Microsoft AI Sprint and EfPI accelerator program, has been able to explore how AI can be used to empower educators and innovate sustainability education.

Vector Centre uses the Microsoft Azure platform technology to better understand where water stress is emerging and optimize water replenishment investments across a region. Vector Center works with governments and companies around the world to better understand the impact of water availability and accessibility.

One of the challenges it addresses is water risk and scarcity in urban communities where data is still often analog, printed and stored in stacks. It is digitizing data and has developed a platform called the Perception Reality Engine on Azure using AI to collect, correlate and analyze data and produce an overall picture of what’s actually happening in real time, to better see how to forestall the threat of when water may not be available. It also can provide a historic view of water in a particular area.

The Perception Reality Engine uses data on rainfall, surface water amounts, plant growth and more to map water availability around the world and flag where crises are occurring or may soon occur. It also overlays this information with news sources and social media to determine where the public perception is different than reality so governance, education and behavior changes can be made before water runs out in a region.

‘When you’ve got species heading down the extinction pathway, taking eight months to a year to gather information and make decisions is far too long’, Camille Goldstone-Henry, wildlife conservation scientist and Co-Founder of Xylo Systems.

Fueled by this knowledge and determined to find a better way to aggregate data, in 2020, Xylo Systems was created. A biodiversity intelligence platform that demystifies biodiversity data and enables companies to make informed decisions for nature-positive practices.

This work was supercharged when Xylo Systems joined the EfPI program with access to Microsoft’s Azure, Power BI and low-code tools in Power Apps. Co-founder and chief technology officer Jada Andersen was able to quickly build a platform to show customers and gather feedback for the next iteration — without needing data engineering experience. The company’s two-person team built a platform that analyzes data from academic, government, camera trap, bioacoustic and other sources, and is now working with customers globally.

Xylo Systems has since added a data scientist to its team and identified more than one hundred vulnerable and endangered species in roughly 6,000 square kilometers of land for customers. The Sacred Groves is a Community Interest Company, driven by the purpose of protecting our planet’s natural habitats. The aspiration by 2030 is to protect and conserve a million acres of natural habitats with the support of a global community of Guardians (environmentally sensitive individuals and companies).

The company’s platform has been built to enable Guardians to seamlessly participate in the process of conservation. The platform uses the latest technologies (Microsoft Azure cloud native architecture, geospatial imaging, blockchain, cognitive computing and advanced analytics) to create an engaging and meaningful interactive experience.

The Sacred Groves aims to arrest deforestation and habitat loss by creating economic models that support the conservation of natural habitats.

1. Tokenization: Sacred Groves Clusters (SGCs)
   The Sacred Groves secures natural habitats at risk of destruction through direct acquisition from landowners, maps them using geospatial imaging, and converts them using advanced analytics into SGCs, which are placed on the blockchain. These are available for a fee ($50 for a 10-year term) on the Sacred Groves web and mobile applications for monitoring and support by Guardians. SGCs make for planet positive gifts for employee engagement or clients - choice of 46 occasions.


2. Conservation Commerce
   The Sacred Groves develops bespoke solutions for enterprises to include conservation in their commercial value proposition to drive revenue and valuation growth. This concept differentiates enterprises across industry sectors by broadening their customer appeal, opening access to new markets and responding to stakeholder pressures (investors, regulators, employees, communities, etc). Examples: Pyaarnation, an Instagram based art seller has committed to protect one square foot of forests for every square foot of art sold.    The Sacred Groves enables the deployment of the residual value realised from Junk (especially e-waste) through recycling/ reselling, towards conservation. 4. Drive Innovation & Change:
   Sacred Groves aims to accelerate Climate Action by collaborating with diverse organisations on product development, innovation programs, learning & development programs, etc. Example: partnership with Lumi.network to launch Climate Action Quests, which are designed to involve young adults to solve some of the world's greatest challenges. 
   
   The Sacred Groves currently supports three forests (two in Wales, UK and one in Nova Scotia, Canada) with the help of Guardians from 50+ countries. Signly is a platform that enhances website accessibility for deaf individuals by providing sign language translation. It integrates seamlessly with websites, allowing users to access content in sign language.

The platform is designed to cater to the diverse linguistic needs of the deaf community, recognizing sign language as their primary mode of communication. Signly challenges the idea that English-only websites adequately serve sign language users – some people don’t or can’t easily use English. As one said “I was born Deaf. I'm not oral. My education was in sign language. I can't acquire English even if I wanted to. In what sense is English my second language?!”

Signly's goal is to bridge the communication gap between deaf individuals and online information. It offers translations for website text, images, and videos. The company uses a broad range of Azure services to facilitate the integration of sign language into websites and streamlining the process and ensuring accurate translations. They integrate security tools including Microsoft Defender CSPM, Cosmos DB, storage solutions such as Snapshots and Block Blobs, networking through NAT Gateway and Azure CDN from Verizon, as well as computing with multiple plans like the Basic and Premium Linux plans. Signly also leverages database management with SQL Database, AI capabilities, analytics, media services like Video On Demand Encoding, and manage resources with Azure ARM service layers and Compute Reservations.

Signly ensures that deaf users can access vital information without relying on intermediaries like friends, family, or interpreters. By empowering deaf individuals to navigate online services independently, Signly promotes inclusivity and equality. It also contributes to the mental well-being of deaf users by reducing stress and frustration associated with accessing information online. Signly's innovative approach transforms websites into deaf-friendly platforms, fostering a more inclusive digital environment. Overall, Signly revolutionizes the online experience for deaf individuals, making information more accessible and improving their quality of life.

Sopht is a French startup founded in 2021. They are editing a 360° data-driven solution that helps companies make their IT more efficient and sustainable through decarbonization levers and guided actionability.

Sopht collects data on a company’s IT usage — from the laptops its employees use to its cloud and network infrastructure — and presents it in easy-to-digest dashboards. It also provides suggestions for reducing that impact. The company’s solution acts as a one-stop shop for analyzing and optimizing IT infrastructure's environmental impact and cost. Sopht uses O365 suite to collaborate, Azure DevOps to prioritize and manage tickets, Azure Cloud platform to host infrastructure.
