What makes a great healthcare leader?

What makes a great healthcare leader?

What makes a healthcare leader great? Is it compassion? Vision? Passion? A mix of all three? Or something else entirely?

This week we asked that question to the 2016 HIMSS participants and they responded by recording their answers in our video booth. We’ve compiled some of the answers here. Take a look and see if you agree.

Tell us what makes a great healthcare leader:

“A great healthcare leader is someone who understands everything from the supply chain to the care delivery.”

“A great healthcare leader understands where the patient is coming from and especially understand the population of who you are caring for.”

“A great healthcare leader is passionate about what they are doing – helping people get better – and has a strong vision for the organization and the will to achieve that vision.”

“A great healthcare leaders needs to be visionary… and flexible.”

“They need to be able to think strategically and adapt to the big, regulatory changes.”

“They need to be able to lead by example. And also share in the successes and failures of their employees.”

“One thing a healthcare leader should never forget is that we are here for the patients.”

“A great healthcare leader is a good listener. And knows that the people who report to you are more important than you are.”

“A great healthcare leader understands how to serve the patient, is compassionate, has vision and the determination to see that vision through.”

“A great healthcare leader leads with the patients and providers, rather than leading through IT.”
